The assessment process begins with an initial intake assessment, where you meet with your psychologist for the first time to discuss your needs and presenting concerns. This intake assessment involves gathering background information and deciding on the most suitable assessment for your needs. During this session, your psychologist will be able to provide you with an overview of what assessments will be conducted, the timeframes and the associated cost. This session also gives you a chance to get to know your psychologist’s particular way of working, to see if it will meet your needs.
Following the intake assessment, testing is completed over several sessions, ranging from 2-4 hours per session. We can schedule this to be immediately following your intake assessment, or on a separate day. We recommend that children and adolescents sit the assessments over multiple sessions to avoid fatigue and ensure their best performance. We can also conduct school observations (for an additional fee) if this is necessary. After the testing is completed, your psychologist will spend time scoring and writing a comprehensive report. A feedback session will then be arranged where the psychologist will explain the results of the assessment to you and provide you with recommendations for intervention strategies that may help you to achieve your educational, occupational, health or mental health goals. We can provide reports to help clients access support under programs such as the NDIS, or for school verification purposes.
The base fee for most assessments is $1,840. This covers the minimum amount of testing in a standard assessment process. You may need additional assessments beyond this base, for which you will be charged by the hourly rate of $230 per hour. If you are unsure whether testing is right for you, you are welcome to book an intake assessment appointment only, charged at the psychologists’ usual hourly rate ($230-250/hour) to discuss whether to proceed.
We have a comprehensive test library with the major psychological and neuropsychological tests, including but not limited to the ADOS, MIGDAS, WISC, WAIS, WPPSI, WIAT, UNIT, WMS, NEPSY, PAI, ABAS, Vinelands, TSI, BRIEF, DKEFS, TEA and OMNI.
You may be able to claim part of your fees back through private health cover. To check what you can claim, ask your health provider about the following item numbers:
I04: Initial psychology consultation (1-2 hours)
S04: Subsequent psychology consultation (1-2 hours)
PA4: Psychological testing (2-6 hours)
